What Are The Most Dangerous Streets In Denver?

Half of Denver's most serious motor vehicle accidents are happening on just 27 streets.

According to an article from Streetsblog Denver, these 27 streets, which represent a mere five percent of the city's total street network, were the site of 130 fatal crashes from 2011 to 2015. The city refers to these streets as the high-injury network.

Neighborhood Roads That Feel Like Highways

The majority of the roads in the high-injury network are multiple-lane residential roads that give drivers the feeling that they are on a highway, when they are actually driving through neighborhoods where people are active and may be crossing. These streets include Colorado Boulevard, Colfax Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

The good news is that the city is committed to ending traffic deaths and serious injuries completely by 2030. The city plans to implement a Vision Zero program which will, in part, improve safety on the streets that make up the high-injury network. This will involve engineering changes to reduce deadly speeds and more.

Furthermore, victims of car wrecks need to know that they are not without options. When a negligent driver causes a wreck by speeding or driving recklessly, that driver may be held accountable. The victim may be able to pursue compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
