Surviving The Deadliest 100 Days On The Road

Many people look forward to the summer months in Colorado. These are months of vacations and road trips, of bike rides and long walks in the sun.

Unfortunately, according to an article from AP News, these months are also the most deadly on Colorado roads. Nearly half the car accident related deaths statewide each year occur between May and August. This is such a big problem that the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day has been labeled the "deadliest 100 days" by some.

Why Are There More Car Accidents In The Summer?

Most people can guess why traffic accidents increase during the summer months. There are simply more people using the roads, not only in cars but on bicycles and on foot.

However, it is not just the increased number of people on the road, but also the poor choices they are more likely to make during the summer, particularly around the holidays such as Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day. People drink more than they should, and then they cause drunk driving accidents. Others may drive distracted, paying more attention to their GPS than the road in front of them as they travel to new places.

Everyone must be diligent and travel with care, especially over the summer. Furthermore, victims of careless drivers should be aware that they have rights. They may be able to seek compensation for medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other expenses stemming from the injuries they suffered in a car wreck. With the help of an experienced lawyer, they can get justice and hold the negligent driver accountable.
